Does your bathroom feel more like a utility closet than a sanctuary? At renovate me!, we believe the only thing “tired” in your home should be you after a long day—ready to relax in a spa-like retreat.

Does your bathroom feel more like a utility closet than a sanctuary? At renovate me!, we believe the only thing “tired” in your home should be you after a long day—ready to relax in a spa-like retreat.
In our recent West Vancouver project, “Down By The Sea,“ we took a standard, outdated condo bathroom and transformed it into a luxury waterfront escape. If you are planning a bathroom renovation in 2026, here is how we turned this “blah” space into a brilliant masterpiece (and how we can do the same for you!).

1. Start with a Clean Slate (Literally)
Great design isn’t just skin deep. For this project, we took the room right down to the studs. This allowed us to replace the insulation and vapor barrier and complete a full plumbing rough-in. The Pro Tip: Never skip the waterproofing! As with all our “wet area” renovations, we installed Schluter-Kerdi membrane over the new tub wall boards. This crucial step ensures your beautiful new investment is protected against mold and moisture for years to come.
2. Mix Your Metals & Textures
Who says you have to choose just one finish? In this renovation, we embraced the “Down By The Sea” theme by mixing elements for a sophisticated look. We paired a new gray vanity cabinet with matte black fixtures—including a luxurious tub filler and rain showerhead—against a brushed brass designer mirror. The Result: A dynamic, modern look that feels curated, not catalog-ordered.
3. The “Wow” Factor: Custom Murals & Stone
To create that boutique hotel vibe, we finished the walls in large-format faux Calacutta porcelain tile. This gives the opulent look of marble without the high maintenance or staining risk of natural stone. But the real showstopper? We installed the vanity against a custom water-resistant mural. It turns a functional wall into a piece of art, proving that even small spaces can have a massive personality.
4. Practical Luxury
We believe a bathroom should work as good as it looks. We installed a quartz shelf running the length of the tub to hold shampoo and products (no more bottles on the floor!), and a half-width hinged tempered glass screen to keep shower water at bay while maintaining an open, airy feel. The floor was finished in large-format porcelain with tight grout lines to minimize cleaning time—because nobody wants to spend their weekends scrubbing grout.
