Project Highlights
For this fireplace remodel, an original gas insert and wood surround/mantel are removed and replaced with a contemporary built-in entertainment unit and linear fireplace.
A floor to ceiling fireplace enclosure is built to house the newly installed Valor linear gas insert. The fireplace insert is set back 3” from the face of the remaining enclosure to protect the flat screen television mounted above. The enclosure is finished in large format faux marble porcelain set with tight grout joints to mimic the look of stone. The set back fireplace face is dressed in concrete grey porcelain for contrast.
Floor to ceiling media units are installed on either side of the fireplace for built-in storage. In an espresso wood finish the storage units’ aesthetic references the home’s newly designed kitchen island cabinetry. The combination of the storage units’ espresso colour and the graceful faux marble tile of the fireplace enclosure is a nod to the hard and soft aesthetic juxtaposed throughout this home renovation.
In addition, the existing wall-mounted air conditioning unit is replaced with a more efficient model. The right hand cabinet houses the new split-unit air conditioning system. Now connected to the outdoor compressor, the unit is accessed via an upper lift up cabinet door. The television cable box and sound system equipment are stored in the left hand cabinet.
To remedy the living room’s lack of overhead lighting, perimeter LED lighting is installed in a newly constructed overhead bulkhead. Velvety grey walls, espresso stained hardwood floors and bronze cast wood cabinet door pulls complete this amazing makeover.
