The goal of this phenomenal kitchen remodel was to create an open-plan, fully functional and integrated kitchen and living/dining space with additional storage and work surfaces. To achieve this objective, the existing condo kitchen was reconfigured and partition walls were removed. Two doors and 18′ of wall were removed to accommodate the integrated design plan. Being a concrete high rise, removing the walls built with steel studs and drywall did not require the inclusion of support beams. The rerouting of all necessary electrical and heating services was necessary though. In addition, the new configuration allowed us to remedy the kitchen’s lack of lighting. A bulkhead was built along the perimeter of the space and above the extensive kitchen peninsula. This allowed for the installation of 4” LED fixtures connected to dimmer switches.
Storage was increased dramatically with the removal of the overhead bulkhead. This allowed for floor-to-ceiling off-white raised-panel cabinets with soft-closing Blum hardware to be installed. In addition, the kitchen’s lower cabinets with their full extension drawers and corner units equipped with pull-out mechanisms enabled the maximum use of storage capacity. To further enhance functionality, a dedicated full height pantry with fully extendable drawers was introduced. Never lose another pot, pan or can again with these ingenious drawer units.
A pure white 3cm quartz counter was installed with 26 linear feet of continuous work surface from the refrigerator to the peninsula edge. To complete the monochromatic design plan, random linear Carrara marble tile was incorporated as the backsplash. Bulkhead-mounted dimmable LED recessed lighting and remote controlled flushmount linear LED undercabinet lighting were included. The improved configuration allowed for all new appliances including a built-in 30” French door refrigerator, double drawer dishwasher, built-in oven, induction cooktop and overhead extractor and microwave. This kitchen remodel exudes lady-like practicality and charm at every turn!
