Life’s a beach and you’re invited – Kitchen reveal

kitchen renovation west vancouver renovateme design and construction

What a treat it was to transform the kitchen of one of our recent renovations from a tired, outdated and small galley option into an open-plan, fully equipped and well appointed masterpiece – a kitchen now worthy of its breathtaking oceanfront locale (and best of all, open concept to capture the aforementioned panoramic views at every turn!)

West Vancouver kitchen renovation
Before

The first order of business to transform the existing closed in and defined kitchen was to remove its dividing walls and reconfigure the condo’s interior to unveil a space now effortlessly incorporated into the home’s living and dining areas.  All three surrounding walls, as well as a 24” section of the hallway closet, were removed to provide a direct ocean view from the condo’s entry.  The newly created “great room” and kitchen combination with its expanded sight lines and modern finishes serves as the perfect backdrop to welcome family and friends alike or to simply unwind and bask in the endless views on offer.

With the addition of an expansive 10′ x 5′ island, the kitchen’s storage and counter space are greatly increased. With the introduction of cabinets on either side of the island, 24” deep cabinets with full extension drawers on the kitchen side and 12” deep options opening into the living room, this kitchen remodel lacks little in the way of storage alternatives.  The 4cm Crema Marfil inspired quartz counter was cut and polished from a full extra-large slab and incorporates a curved bar overhang to mirror the curved drop ceiling above.  Two rectangular columns intersect the counter, one, a solid concrete structural column, and the other housing plumbing and a substantial drainage stack.  To mitigate their visual unpleasantness (and the fact that they practically can not be removed,) the columns are dressed in a combination of polished, honed and rippled mosaic marble.  The island now houses the kitchen’s undermount stainless sink, dishwasher and microwave drawer unit – after all, who would mind doing dishes with that view?

The main kitchen wall features 24” deep lower cabinets and shallower 15” deep uppers in an off-white raised panel design, all equipped with Blum soft-closing drawer and door hardware.  The kitchen cabinets, which also wrap around to create an inviting entry nook, incorporate an undercounter built in range, a glass cooktop, a counter-depth refrigerator and an adjacent tall pantry with full extension drawers.

Before

A herringbone design porcelain tile backsplash, set between the counter and upper cabinets, and to ceiling height behind the extractor hood, adds monochromatic cohesion to this kitchen renovation.   Linear LED task lighting, flushmounted in the underside of the upper cabinet panels and operated by dimmable remote control, further emphasizes the streamlined function and style synonymous with this kitchen redesign.

In Summary

No detail was left untouched in this kitchen transformation.  Complete with floor-to-ceiling off-white raised panel cabinetry equipped with Blum soft-closing hardware, “cookie dough” quartz counters, herringbone porcelain backsplash that mimics the allure of marble without any of the fuss and maintenance, undercabinet LED lighting, quartz topped island, columns clad in Carrara marble mosaic, and commercial quality AC5 Swiss-made “bleached” laminate floated over SolidSound noise suppression membrane, this West Vancouver kitchen renovation certainly dazzles from corner to corner.
